FAQs

Is it safe to travel to Central and South America?

It has to be safe and we would not send a single soul anywhere we felt their safety and well-being were in question. Yes, some destinations have times of unrest, but we have well entrenched arrangements that insulate our clients from any hint of trouble, real or imagined. Our destinations are usually so remote that you will never be safer.

I have heard that malaria is common in equatorial climates. Is this true?

Common, no. Does it exist, yes, but in the dry season there are no mosquitoes and as such transmit ion of malaria is almost non-existent. With that said, all travelers to an equatorial climate should take Mefloquine as a malaria preventative.

Why do I need to use a booking service when I can make arrangements myself?

You can book some trips direct but you will not save any money and doubtful you would ever do it again. Here is why. We at WWA represent you the client. We depend on your having a great vacation. With out it, we would not exist. There are so many factors to consider, historical water levels, times of year, and your own expectations. Only an independent advisor can assist you in choosing the right destination that suites your needs. Lodge owners do a good job of representing their own lodge. We do a good job of representing you. Any cost breaks or discounts are passed on to you the client. It is not uncommon for WWA clients to pay a lower, non-published fare. Lodge owners want your business, but they want all of our business!

Can I bring a cooler of fish home with me?

Most of the time you cannot. Most lodges practice a catch and release policy and as such there is no need for a cooler. Should you want to take some fish home with you please tell us up front. Some times, but not always, we can accommodate you request.

Some of the tackle required for some of these trips is unusual and is not sold in my area. What do I do?

We have established vendors whom we have sought out for their expertise and equipment availability. They know what you need, what we expect of them and that we monitor their activities.

Can I get a fish mounted?

In this day and age, skin mounts are a thing of the past. Catch and release means returning the catch unharmed. Most people instead choose to have a replica made of their catch from their photos and measurements of the catch. We have various taxidermists that will recreate your catch. Be sure and tell you lodge host that you will want to measure a large catch.

Can I bring a partner who wants to come but not fish?

Yes you can, but remember that some remote destinations offer little else other than fishing, while some lodges are perfect for the whole family. Be sure and let WWA know what you want and we will match you up with a destination to suit your expectations.

What is the minimum age for bringing my son?

There is no hard and fast rule as it varies by location. Ask and we will find out for you.

Why is there no packing list on your website?

Upon booking a trip with WWA, you will receive 60 days in advance a detailed list of what to bring and not to bring.

What kind of documentation will I need to bring on a trip?

You will need a passport to travel outside the U.S. . Your passport should have at least 6 month left on it as of the date of entry of a foreign country. Only Brazil requires a visa and we can easily assist you in getting one.
